The Beatles Box Set is a sixteen-disc compilation box set that compiles all recorded works of the Beatles issued between 1962 and 1970. The box set was released on 15 November 1988 both in Britain and America, both releases used the same catalogue number (Apple BBX2-91302). While the box set was also available in Vinyl LP and Cassette tape formats, The Beatles Box Set was the first complete CD collection of original Beatles' material to be released by EMI and Capitol Records
The box set included all of the original UK album releases, as well as the 1967 US album "Magical Mystery Tour" (which replaced the UK EP release in 1975 as the official canon release). The box also included both the 1988 Beatles compilations "Past Masters: Volume 1 and Volume 2", which compiled together singles, B-sides, EP tracks, and foreign releases not found on the UK studio albums.
The compilation was encased in a black oak roll-top box and included:
- 16 Compact disc set including all recorded Beatles' material
- a soft-cover book with commentary on the songs by Beatles recording historian Mark Lewisohn
