In My Life is a song by The Beatles, written by John Lennon, and credited to Lennon/McCartney. It is often ranked amongst the best Beatles songs by fans and critics, and it has been voted Best Song On Earth by music fans.
Recording
In My Life was recorded on October 18, 1965. Lennon asked George Martin to play a piano solo. Martin wrote a Bach-influenced piece, which he was not able to play at the song's tempo. The solo was recorded on October 22, 1965 at half-tempo (one octave lower), and the tape speed was doubled for the final recording, with the fortuitous result that it sounded like a harpsichord.
