All Together Now is a song by John Lennon and Paul McCartney (see Lennon/McCartney). It was recorded during the sessions for Magical Mystery Tour, but remained unreleased until July 17th, 1968, when it was included as the third song in the Yellow Submarine movie, and January 13th, 1969, when it appeared on its soundtrack album. The song is also kid-friendly like in Yellow Submarine, but it's more obvious in Yellow Submarine.

Recording[]

The song was completed in a six-hour session on May 12th 1967. Since George Martin was absent from this session, Geoff Emerick was in charge of the control room. The backing track was recorded in nine takes, with the last take being chosen for overdubs.

Credits[]

  • John Lennon - double-tracked lead vocals (middle eight), backing vocals, ukulele, banjo, harmonica, handclaps
  • Paul McCartney - lead vocals and backing vocals, bass guitar (1964 Rickenbacker 4001S), acoustic guitar, handclaps, percussion
  • George Harrison - backing vocals, acoustic guitar, handclaps
  • Ringo Starr - backing vocals, drums, finger cymbals, triangle, handclaps

Mark Lewisohn reported that the "party-style" backing vocals were also provided by "anyone else who happened to be around".
