- 3 January - Footage of the Beatles performing a concert in Bournemouth, England is shown on The Jack Paar Show.
- 15 January - Vee Jay Records files a lawsuit against Capitol Records and Swan Records over manufacturing and distribution rights to Beatles albums. On 9 April, Capitol Records is granted an injunction restraining Vee Jay Records from further manufacturing, distributing or advertising recordings by the Beatles.
- 18 January - The Beatles appear on the Billboard magazine charts for the first time.
- 29 January - The Beatles recorded German versions of 'I Want to Hold Your Hand' and 'She Loves You' in Paris, at EMI's Pathé Marconi Studios. Also, they recorded 'Can't Buy Me Love'.
- 7 February - The Beatles arrive in the United States and are greeted by thousands of screaming fans at New York's Kennedy Airport.
- 9 February - The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show, which breaks television ratings records.
- 16 February - The Beatles appear on The Ed Sullivan Show.
- 23 February - The Beatles appear on The Ed Sullivan Show.
- 25 February - The Beatles give vocal and guitar overdubs to 'Can't Buy Me Love', they had already recorded the song in Paris. 'And I Love Her' and 'You Can't Do That' were recorded.
- 27 February - The Beatles record a remake to 'And I Love Her'.
- 14 March - Billboard Magazine reports that sales of Beatles records make up 60% of the entire singles market.
- 24 March - John Lennon's first book, In His Own Write is published.
- 27 March - The Beatles occupy the top six spots on the Australian pop chart.
- 28 March - Wax likenesses of The Beatles are put on display in London's Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. The Beatles are the first pop stars to be displayed at the museum.
- 4 April - The Beatles occupied all five top positions on Billboard's Hot 100 with their singles 'Can't Buy Me Love', 'Twist and Shout', 'She Loves You', 'I Want to Hold Your Hand', and 'Please Please Me'.
- 11 April - The Beatles hold 14 positions on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Previously, the highest number of concurrent singles by one artist on the Hot 100 was nine by Elvis Presley, 9 December 1956.
- 16 April - The Beatles record 'A Hard Day's Night'.
- 6 July - A Hard Day's Night premieres at The Pavilion Theatre in London.
- 23 August - First concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
- 8 October - The Beatles recorded 'She's a Woman'.
- 18 October - The Beatles recorded 'I Feel Fine', 'Kansas City/Hey-Hey-Hey-Hey!', 'I'll Follow the Sun', 'Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby', 'Rock and Roll Music', 'Words of Love', remade 'Mr. Moonlight', and completed 'Eight Days a Week', all in nine hours.
